17-Day Grand Tour

On arrival at Fes airport, meet your driver for the transfer to your hotel in the medina. Settle in and enjoy your first glimpse of the old city before the journey begins the following morning.

Explore Fes with a local guide, entering the UNESCO-listed medina through its historic gates. Walk the narrow lanes to traditional souks, Quranic schools, artisan workshops, the Nejjarine quarter, and viewpoints over the famous tanneries, with time to understand the city's living crafts and history.

Travel north from Fes through rolling farmland and the foothills of the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen. Settle into your hotel, then begin exploring the blue lanes, small squares, and mountain setting of the medina.

Spend the day discovering Chefchaouen on foot, from the blue-painted lanes of the medina to Outa el Hammam square, the kasbah, and the spring at Ras El Maa. There is also time to browse local weaving and craft shops or walk to a viewpoint over the town.

Leave Chefchaouen and cross the Rif foothills to Volubilis, Morocco's best-preserved Roman archaeological site. After exploring its mosaics, arches, and columns, continue to imperial Meknes for its monumental gates, medina, and evening atmosphere.

Leave Meknes and climb into the Middle Atlas, passing mountain towns and the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary macaques are often visible. Continue across the high plateau to Midelt and settle into your hotel for the night.

Leave Midelt and cross the Tizi n'Talghamt pass before descending through the Ziz Gorges. Follow the palm-filled valley toward Erfoud and the Tafilalt oasis, then continue to Merzouga for a night in a riad or guesthouse beside the dunes.

Explore the area around Erg Chebbi, meeting a nomadic family and learning about everyday life in the desert. Later, return to Merzouga and ride a camel into the dunes for sunset, dinner, music, and an overnight stay in the desert camp.

Leave the dunes of Merzouga after breakfast and travel through Rissani and the palm landscapes of the Tafilalt. Continue to Tinghir for a walk through the towering Todgha Gorges, then follow the road of kasbahs to the Dades Valley for the night.

Travel through the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses, passing adobe villages, kasbahs, and changing oasis landscapes. Arrive in Ouarzazate, the historic gateway between the Atlas Mountains and the desert, and settle into your riad.

Travel from Ouarzazate to the fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou and explore its earthen lanes and kasbahs. Continue through changing Atlas landscapes toward the Ouzoud Falls, arriving in time to settle into your riad near the waterfalls.

Spend the morning enjoying the paths and viewpoints around the Ouzoud Falls, where water drops through a red-rock gorge surrounded by olive trees. Later, return across the countryside to Marrakech and check into your riad.

Discover Marrakech with a local guide, visiting the medina's historic monuments, traditional souks, artisan quarters, and hidden courtyards. The route can include the Koutoubia area, Bahia Palace, and the lively atmosphere of Jemaa el-Fna before returning to your riad.

Leave Marrakech for Essaouira, crossing the argan-growing countryside on the way to the Atlantic. After arrival, explore the fishing port, ramparts, and whitewashed medina, then enjoy the evening and spend the night in a riad.

Enjoy a final stroll through Essaouira's medina or along the seafront before leaving the Atlantic coast. Travel back through the argan countryside to Marrakech and settle into your riad for the night.
